What a Hyvä migration
actually costs.
The honest answer: it's driven by your module and theme complexity, not your catalogue size. We don't publish a fixed price because a blind number is misleading — here is what moves it, the range to expect, and how a two-week audit turns it into a real, fixed number for your store.
The short answer
Our engagements sit in the EUR 30k–200k range. Most Hyvä migrations land in the lower-to-middle of it: a straightforward DTC storefront with few custom modules is toward the bottom, a multi-store or B2B migration with heavy customisation toward the top. The one number that barely matters is catalogue size — a Hyvä migration is a frontend rebuild, so 5,000 or 50,000 SKUs is the same template work.
What drives the price
- Number of custom & third-party modules. The single biggest driver. Each module whose frontend touched Luma either has a Hyvä-compat package (cheap) or needs an Alpine.js rewrite (not). The module inventory, not the catalogue, sets the scope.
- Depth of the existing theme. A heavily customised Luma theme with many bespoke templates is a bigger rebuild than a near-stock one. We are porting every custom template, so their count matters.
- Checkout scope. Default Magento checkout on Hyvä is one scope; Hyvä Checkout, or a custom checkout, is another. Deciding early keeps the number stable.
- B2B features. Company accounts, roles, negotiated pricing, quote flows and price lists add real frontend surface. A B2B migration sits above a straightforward DTC one.
- Store views, languages & markets. Each locale, currency and market storefront multiplies QA and template work. A single-store DTC migration is far lighter than a multi-country rollout.
- Port vs redesign. A straight visual port to Hyvä is cheaper than a migration bundled with a redesign. Both are valid; they are just different budgets.
Why we scope with an audit instead of a price list
A fixed price quoted before the module inventory is either padded to cover the unknown or simply wrong. Our two-week store audit inventories every module, override and custom widget, marks each for Hyvä compatibility, and produces a fixed scope and a real number. The fee is credited against the build if you proceed — so the honest way to price your migration also de-risks it. See the full process in our Luma to Hyvä migration guide and what we deliver on the Hyvä migration service.
FAQ
- How much does a Magento Hyvä migration cost?
- It depends far more on your module and theme complexity than on catalogue size. We don't publish a fixed price because a blind number is misleading — our engagements sit in the EUR 30k–200k range, and most Hyvä migrations fall in the lower-to-middle of it, with multi-store or B2B builds toward the top. A two-week audit turns this into a fixed scope and a real number for your store.
- What drives the price of a Hyvä migration?
- The number of custom and third-party modules whose frontend needs porting, the depth of the existing theme, the checkout scope, any B2B features, and how many store views, languages and markets you run. Catalogue size is a common misconception — it barely moves the number.
- Why not just publish a fixed price?
- Because a fixed price quoted before the module inventory is either padded to cover the unknown or wrong. The honest path is a two-week audit that inventories every module and override, then a fixed scope and price you can trust. The audit fee is credited against the build if you proceed.
- Does a bigger catalogue cost more to migrate?
- Rarely. A Hyvä migration is a frontend rebuild; the catalogue lives in the Magento backend, which doesn't change. 5,000 SKUs or 50,000, the storefront templates are the same work. Custom modules and theme depth are what move the number.
- How does the cost compare to a full re-platform?
- A Hyvä migration is materially cheaper and lower-risk than moving platform, because it keeps your backend, data and integrations intact and ships in weeks, not quarters. If you're weighing platforms rather than just the frontend, our Shopify Plus vs Magento Hyvä breakdown is the better starting point.
